Become a Bark Busters Dog Trainer and Behaviour Therapist
Are you considering a dog training career where you can make a big difference in the lives of dogs and their owners? Bark Busters is expanding across the UK and we are looking for people who want to learn how to help dogs and their owners and that want to run their own business and become a dog trainer.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for individuals who have a passion for helping dogs and helping people. People skills are critical as you will be teaching owners. You need to be nonjudgmental, empathetic and caring. We are dealing with very important members of people’s families. We provide intensive training to learn our techniques, so it is not necessary that you be an experienced dog trainer or have completed other dog training certifications. Our approach is unique, so you will be learning a whole new technique.
Your career in dog training begins with an intensive residential training programme. This is NOT correspondence or internet-based self learning. This is hands-on, face to face intensive education over a number of weeks. Our Head of Training, Linda Dodsworth, personally conducts the training of each new franchisee on a one to one basis. Bark Busters' (and your) success and reputation is based on the quality of your training, so we place great importance in ensuring your skills meet our high standards. Our training programme has been developed and continuously refined since Bark Busters began over 23 years ago. Through it, we consistently produce successful behaviour therapists and trainers.
In the training you will learn:
- Dog Psychology
- How to read dog temperaments
- How to teach basic obedience
- How to solve the common issues that our clients find most frustrating
- How to solve complex behaviour problems like separation anxiety
- How to safely and effectively rehabilitate aggressive dogs
- How to train puppies
We also teach you about the keys to running a successful Bark Busters dog training business and to successfully become a dog trainer. One of the biggest challenges most dog trainers face is being profitable enough to do this full time. At Bark Busters, we have a model that works. We share the best practices being employed by our existing successful franchisees which will give you a huge advantage in comparison to starting out all on your own. Topics include business planning, marketing, goal setting, customer relations and public relations. All are consistent with our mission of helping more dogs. By achieving this, you will grow a profitable business.
Ongoing Training Support
We realise that even with the most intensive training, you will never have “learned it all”.
Even our seasoned veterans occasionally run into cases that stump them. This is where the value of being part of an organisation like Bark Busters really shines. It sets us apart from the many "dog training schools" where, once you graduate, you are left to fend for yourself. We have the resources available from around the world when you need help:
Our Head of Training can discuss the case directly with you; Our knowledgebase documents hundreds of the toughest cases and solutions other Bark Busters trainers have already been through. Our conferences and forums are great opportunities to share information on tough cases and to refine your training. Any of your Bark Busters colleagues around the world (including our founders Danny and Sylvia Wilson) are happy to share advice, expertise and experience. Our Annual National Bark Busters Conference is an opportunity for us to upgrade your training, share your experience with other trainers and share business building ideas. In addition we hold regional conferences throughout the year. We designed this programme to accelerate your learning curve. Instead of just learning from your own experience, you can learn faster by sharing knowledge with 400+ Bark Busters around the world. This enhances your ability to help more dogs and grow a profitable business in a shorter timeframe.
Being part of the world's largest dog training company has many advantages. Our size allows us to invest in very professional marketing materials and programmes at a fraction of the cost of what independent operators would pay. Our Google search rankings are very high and as a result, our website constantly puts you in touch with many new clients. We have systems already in place to help you with administrative tasks like our call centre, automated client email programme, equipment ordering, etc... We want you to spend your valuable time doing what you love and what is most important; helping dogs and building your client base.
The total cost of a new territory starts from £18,000 + VAT. This includes your training and the rights to operate the Bark Busters dog training business in a specified geographic territory. There are also some previously owned franchises that are for sale at varying prices. Bark Busters UK has recently launched an option to purchase the business under a self financing model, after an initial down payment. (For more details, please contact us).
Compared to other dog training schools, this can seem high. However, it is important to understand that you are buying an asset which is very different from simply paying a tuition fee. If you build your business, there is a good chance it will increase in value and one day, if you decide to move on, you can sell it to recoup your investment.
To fund the ongoing support programmes, Bark Busters charges a royalty on your revenue. This funds programmes to help grow your business and client base. It also funds national public relations programmes that benefit all franchisees. I would encourage you to read what some of our current franchisees have to say about their experience by following this link to our Trainers Testimonials.
